Having already clinched its league championship, the Under 10 Union City Boys Travel Soccer Club took to the Jose Marti Academy field on Sunday afternoon seeking an undefeated season.
With 9 wins already recorded, the squad entered Sunday’s match against Ridgefield looking for perfection in the fall season. The team is a member of the Northern Counties Soccer Association, with ten teams in Union City’s division. According to coach Steve Molina, a Detective with the Union City Police Department, “The boys have been playing over a year together and after intense training and dedication, we have managed to earn our first Championship.”
Entering Sunday’s contest, the team had scored 55 goals in just 9 games. Averaging more than six goals a game in soccer, well, that’s quite an achievement.
The roster consists of twelve players, as well as co-coach Nelson Luna under the direction of Jose Renteria and Felix Adames. When Sunday’s match was over, Union City achieved its undefeated season with a 7-1 drubbing of Ridgefield.
Next weekend the team will compete in a Super Cup Tournament in Princeton.
