34-year old Daniel L. Benitez of Bergen Avenue in Jersey City has been arrested by Bayonne Police for various narcotics and illegal weapons charges according to Captain Eric Amato. Benitez was taken into custody at 11:02 pm on Friday night from the area of 32nd Street and Route 440 South.
Amato says officers observed a vehicle, later determined to be operated by Benitez, violate several motor vehicle laws. Police conducted a motor vehicle stop and an on-scene investigation led to the recovery of narcotic paraphernalia used to distribute CDS, approximately 74 pills of MDMA (ecstasy), 2 digital scales containing cocaine residue, a fully loaded .22 caliber revolver, which was later determined to be stolen, and more than $800 in suspected proceeds of narcotic sales.
During the arrest process, Amato says it was discovered that Benitez was classified as a certain person to not possess weapons.
He has been charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with the intent to distribute, possession of CDS with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of school property and 500 feet of a public park.
In addition, Benitez faces charges of possession of narcotic paraphernalia with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, the unlawful possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property and certain person not to possess weapons.
