A two alarm fire in a residential house located at 9 New Street in Bayonne has left 13 people temporarily displaced. According to a statement issued by Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver, no injuries were reported in the blaze, which began at approximately 8:45 this morning.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a smoke condition and a working fire in the basement of the home. Crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading within the structure and to the adjacent homes.
Chief Weaver says it was brought under control by 9:23 am. He adds that occupants of the building will be able to return once the owner completes repairs.
The Bayonne Office of Emergency Management and the Red Cross are assisting the 13 individuals find temporary housing. No cause for the fire has been determined at this time.
An investigation is underway.
