Quite an accomplishment for two, teenage sisters from Weehawken.  14-year old Katharine Facchini and 16-year old Clare Facchini recently earned the Eagle Scout Award, the highest advancement rank within Scouting America, formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America. They are the first, two Scouts to be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout as members of Troop 107G, which is sponsored by American Legion Post 107, founded in 1920. Kate and Clare both joined Troop 107G as founders in 2022.

Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of Scouts have earned this rank after a lengthy review process. The Facchini sisters earned the award on June 23, 2025, and were recognized in a ceremony on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the St. Matthew Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoboken.

To receive this award, each candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges. In addition, Kate and Clare had to successfully complete a significant service project benefiting their community, faith organization, or school, demonstrating leadership.  Adults, members of six troops, and friends volunteered over 200 hours of time to help complete their projects, which were both located along the Lincoln Park West Wetland and Nature Trail in Jersey City.  The trail is part of the Hackensack River Greenway, which is a partially completed path along the banks of the river running the length of the Hudson County shoreline. The trail runs through a wetlands restoration project adjacent to the Hackensack River and is home to rare bird species including Black Skimmers, Osprey, and Egrets.

Kate coordinated the installation of over a dozen gardens along the trail. She chose different species of native plants that would bloom in the spring, summer, and fall. For her Eagle Project, Clare installed signs along the trail and named different locations on the trail and chose the signage design.

Kate and Clare thanked Scouts from their Troop 107G, Hoboken’s Troop 146, Rutherford’s Troop 166, Weehawken’s Troop 223, Jersey City’s Troop 466, and New York City’s Troop 422 for all their help. A special thank you was given to Fred Parcells and the staff of Skyway Golf Course for their continued dedication to helping with both projects and to Deputy Director of Hudson County Department of Parks Kevin Wong for granting permission to allowing the projects in the oldest and largest of Hudson County’s Parks.

Both sisters have served in various leadership roles such as Quartermaster, Webmaster, Patrol Leader, and Senior Patrol Leader. They have received numerous awards for their dedication to Scouting and Religion. Both join other outstanding American citizens who have become Eagle Scouts, among them former President Gerald R. Ford, Jr., astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, cinematographer Steven Spielberg, and the former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates as well as their older brothers John and Nick Facchini, who both became Eagle Scouts in 2023 with Hoboken Troop 146.
