On Wednesday morning in Wet New York, the dream of becoming a police officer came true for a six- year old girl suffering from a rare liver disease.

Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the West New York Police Department, Sorianny Vasquez, an exceptional student at School #4, was sworn in as a police sergeant, following in the footsteps of her mom, who is currently enrolled in the Bergen County Police Academy as she prepares to join the West New York Police force.

Mayor Albio Sires performed the swearing-in ceremony and then presented Sorianny with her police badge.  Then Sorianny had her photo taken for her municipal ID card.

It was truly a wonderful, heartwarming story for a young girl who has suffered so much.  She has received a liver transplant and she is doing well physically.

Everyone who took part in this morning’s ceremony had a smile on their face.

Sorianny has two siblings.  She is a straight A student, enrolled in School #4.
