The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has announced that a man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a woman nearly one month ago. According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested 22-year old, Emil Figueroa-Blanco yesterday for committing a sex crime on a woman in North Bergen.
Suarez says the crime took place on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at a motel on Tonnelle Avenue. The 22-year old victim met the defendant through acquaintances in the hours leading up to the assault.
Figueroa-Blanco, a resident of West New York, has been charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault, a crime of the first degree. A statement says he was arrested at the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where he is being detained on an unrelated matter. He remains in custody pending a detention motion.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit with the investigation and arrest, with assistance coming from the North Bergen Police Department.
Anyone wishing to report a sex crime should call the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) at 201-915-1234.
The above charges against Figueroa-Blanco are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
