An arrest has been made in this week’s fatal shooting of a 15-year old, Jersey City boy, and the arrestee is just 14-years of age. According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, members of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit arrested the male juvenile on Friday, June 9th.
15-year old Tyshawn Smith was gunned down on Monday, June 5th at approximately 4:20 am. The shooting took place at 124 Wilkinson Avenue.
Prosecutor Suarez stated, “Responding officers located an injured male – later identified as Tyshawn Smith, 15, of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at approximately 4:55 a.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be a Gunshot Wound to the Abdomen and the Manner to be Homicide.”
The 14-year-old suspect is charged as a juvenile with aggravated manslaughter, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus.
Suarez adds that juvenile matters are confidential and no additional information can be released at this time. The charges are considered accusations at the present time, with the suspect innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
