Jersey City broke ground on a new $5.6 Million Dollar, state of the art firehouse on Tuesday. This will be the city’s first new firehouse in 20 years, the 12,000 square foot station will house Engine 10 and Ladder 12. It will be located in the Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood, one of the more highly populated areas in Jersey City. The new project will be replacing the decommissioned 116 year old fire station, after a floor collapse in the single bay structure.

The old firehouse was built for horse drawn fire apparatus, highlighting just how long it has been around. Located at 627 Grand Street, the new station will have an LEED Silver Certified Structure, with dual bays being able to fit 3 full size apparatuses. Construction on this new firehouse is projected to finish by Summer of 2022.
