A special day for the Township of North Bergen and its Police Department on Wednesday, October 22, as Mayor Nicholas Sacco, Public Safety Commissioner Allen Pascual, and Police Chief Robert Farley Jr. presided over an Oath of Office Ceremony for six new, Special Law Enforcement Officers Class II (SLEO II). The new officers sworn in during a Town Hall ceremony are were Raynel Carrillo, Gabriel J. Mendez, Kyle J. DeOrio, Yoswany Gonzalez, Jimmy O. Burgos, and Joseph A. Gagliardi.
During the ceremony, Mayor Sacco stated “Each of these individuals has demonstrated a strong commitment to our community and a desire to keep North Bergen safe. We’re proud to welcome them into the North Bergen Police Department, where they will continue the proud tradition of service and professionalism that defines our township.”
Joining Mayor Sacco, Commissioner Pascual, and Chief Farley were members of the Township Board of Commissioners, police officials, family, friends, and community supporters. The ceremony celebrated the officers’ commitment to public service and their pledge to protect and serve the residents of North Bergen.
“Our police officers are the foundation of public safety in North Bergen,” said Public Safety Commissioner Pascual. “These new officers join a department that values integrity, accountability, and compassion. I’m confident they will uphold those principles every day.”
Chief Farley added, “This ceremony marks not only the start of a new chapter for these officers but also a reaffirmation of our department’s mission to serve with honor. I look forward to watching them grow within the department and contribute to our ongoing efforts to keep North Bergen a safe place to live and work.”
The Officer Biographies are as follows:
Yoswany Gonzalez
A lifelong North Bergen resident, Gonzalez attended Franklin Elementary School and North Bergen High School and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice at New Jersey City University, where she is expected to graduate in Spring 2026. She has served as a North Bergen Police Dispatcher for the past three years.
Raynel Carrillo
Carrillo was born and raised in North Bergen and attended Paramus Catholic High School, North Bergen High School, and Bergen Community College. He comes from a family with a background in law enforcement and remains deeply connected to the North Bergen community.
Jimmy O. Burgos Jr.
Born in Hoboken and raised in Jersey City, Burgos moved to North Bergen in 2021 and is completing his associate degree in Public Health at Hudson County Community College. A graduate of the New Jersey State Police Trooper Youth Week and a former Police Explorer with the Jersey City PAL, he currently works as a Communications Operator with the North Bergen Police Department.
Kyle J. DeOrio
DeOrio is a lifelong North Bergen resident who attended North Bergen High School, Monroe College, and Avila University, where he played football at both the high school and collegiate levels. He comes from a family with a proud tradition in law enforcement.
Gabriel J. Mendez
Mendez grew up in North Bergen, attending Horace Mann Elementary and Bergen Catholic High School, before earning collegiate athletic honors in football at Anna Maria College in Massachusetts. He currently works as a CCTV Operator for the North Bergen Police Department and is the son of NBPD Sergeant Edgar Mendez.
Joseph A. Gagliardi
Born and raised in North Bergen, Gagliardi attended Horace Mann School, County Prep High School, Bergen Community College, and New Jersey City University. He brings valuable emergency response experience to the department through his work as an EMT and firefighter.
