Despite cancelling tonight’s campaign event due to the extreme cold, Union City Mayor Brian Stack and his four, fellow Commissioners, this morning formally announced their intention to seek re-election in the upcoming May 12th election via a press release.
Stack is Union City’s longest serving Mayor, having taken office in 2000. He will be joined once again on his ticket by incumbent Commissioners Maryury Martinetti, Lucio Fernandez, Wendy Grullon and Celin Valdivia.

The press release states that the re-election bid is “reaffirming their shared commitment to continued progress, responsible leadership, and strong community partnerships in Union City.” Saying serving the people of Union City is “the greatest honor of my life,” Mayor Stack added, “Together, with our Commissioners, we have worked tirelessly to move our city forward by building eight new schools, shuttering dozens of problematic bars and liquor establishments that negatively impacted our quality of life, repaving countless streets and installing brand new sidewalks and modern lighting throughout our City. We have instituted community policing to reduce crime and engage residents. While we are proud of what we’ve accomplished, there is still much important work ahead.”
During their current terms, the Mayor and Commissioners have focused on:
* Strengthening public safety and emergency services by holding hundreds of community meetings per year.
* Investing in recreational spaces and neighborhood improvements by building new pools, parks, and open spaces that are easily accessible to all residents.
* Enhancing local business districts and promoting economic development with new decorative lighting on Bergenline Avenue and Summit Avenue.
* Maintaining fiscal responsibility and transparent government with an open door policy at City Hall that is welcoming to the entire community.
* Working with statewide officials and stakeholders to secure millions in financial aid in order to stabilize taxes and continue to improve our community.
* Making the local public school district the strongest public school system in New Jersey.
Mayor Brian Stack added, “The foundation of our public service has been accessibility, as I offer my cell phone number to every resident so that I can personally address needs. With the help of the community, I look forward to another four years of exciting improvements and enhanced quality of life.”
