THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS NEW INFORMATION AS OF 10:20pm                                                                                                                                                       According to preliminary results from the Hudson County Clerk’s office at 10:06 this evening, the $241 million Hoboken school referendum was soundly defeated today.  The unofficial results of the special election show registered Hoboken voters defeating the Board of Education’s proposal for a new high school by a margin of approximately 2 to 1.

With 35 of 42 districts in the city reporting, 4,929 people cast ballots against the referendum, and 2,542 people favored the construction of a new high school.

Of the 1,637 mail-in votes tallied, the no vote, those against the construction of the new high school, totaled 1,044, or 63.78 percent, while the yes vote, those favoring construction, totaled 593, or 36.22 percent.
