It was an historic run for the Bayonne Little League squad in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, but dreams of winning the championship came to an end on Tuesday night, as the Metro Region champions fell to the Great Lakes region champion, Hamilton, Ohio by a score of 5-2.
It was Bayonne’s second loss in the double elimination tournament.
Jett Bridges started on the mound for Bayonne. He pitched three shutout innings before he walked the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the fourth. He was relieved on the mound by Gabe Garcia Jr. who struck out his first batter before allowing an RBI single.
That’s when Ohio broke the game open, scoring a total of five runs in the inning to lead 5-0. Bayonne could never generate the huge comeback it needed, eventually falling 5-2 and bringing their season to an end.
It was a great run for the team, the first ever from Bayonne to reach Williamsport.
Bayonne versus Everybody. Quite the ride. Your community, and Hudson County as a whole, are extremely proud of your accomplishment boys!!
