Hudson Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit Investigating Fatal Jersey City Shooting on Danforth Avenue

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information this afternoon regarding a midnight shooting that has left one man dead:

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating the shooting death of a 23-year-old man on Danforth Avenue in Jersey City on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at approximately 12:00 a.m.

Suarez says the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Danforth Avenue.  When the department arrived, responding officers located an unresponsive, male victim – later identified as Khalil King of Fayetteville, North Carolina – inside a retail establishment located at 152 Danforth Avenue with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:16 a.m.

The cause and Manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office according to Suarez.  The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
