Three underage individuals from Jersey City were involved in a car crash in Little Ferry after stealing a vehicle in Weehawken the night before. The police chase and crash occurred on May 3rd, 2023.
Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller says officers observed the 2014 white Dodge Dirango traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 3 West near Mwadowlands Parkway. Officers determined the car was stolen out of Weehawken and they began a pursuit which ended with the car crashing into a tree in Little Ferry.
The police arrested the three juveniles who attempted to escape. One of the occupants was located by the Little Ferry Police K-9 hiding behind a shed. The occupants were identified as two, 17-year old males and one 16- year old male, all from Jersey City. All of the juveniles were transported to the Hackensack University Medical Center, to be treated for their injuries.
Chief Miller stated, “I will note that one of the juveniles involved in this pursuit was arrested for eluding police, receiving stolen property, et. al. on April 16, 2023 in Fort Lee, but was released. The investigation is ongoing and it is believed these juveniles may be involved in other car thefts within Hudson County.”
All of the juveniles were charged with receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit receiving stolen property. The 16-year old and one of the 17-year old males were also charged with resisting arrest by flight. All were released to a parent and/or guardian.
