Hombre de Jersey City sentenciado a 45 años de prisión por asesinato en 2019

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Thursday, November 3, 2022, the Honorable Mitzy Galis-Menendez sentenced Darius Bolden, 36, to 45 years in New Jersey State Prison for the 2019 shooting death of Jason Dunbar in Jersey City.

Bolden, of Jersey City, was convicted at trial of Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1), and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1) on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. He was sentenced to 45 years on the Murder charge, subject to the No Early Release Act. Bolden was additionally sentenced to seven years in New Jersey State Prison on the Unlawful Possession of a Weapon charge, which will run concurrent to the 45 year sentence. The State was represented in this case by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutors David Feldman and Nicole Ghezzar.

“The State is satisfied with the outcome of this case and appreciates the court for imposing an appropriate sentence in the matter,” said Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Nicole Ghezzar. “We thank the jury for its service throughout the course of the two week trial this past summer.”

On Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 169 Fulton Avenue. Responding officers found an unresponsive man – later identified as Jason Dunbar, 35, of Jersey City – with multiple apparent

gunshot wounds. Dunbar was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center and pronounced dead at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be Multiple Gunshot Wounds and Manner of Death to be Homicide.
