The Secaucus Police Anti-Crime Unit recovered a rifle and methamphetamine during a routine motor vehicle stop on February 21, 2023.
At 4:53 p.m., while on patrol on the Route 3 East corridor, detectives from the Anti-Crime Unit observed a 2017 Gray Chevrolet Cruze driving on the white dotted lane marker for a significant distance. The detectives stopped the vehicle in the area of 215 Route 3 East, after observing the motor vehicle violation.
During the search of the vehicle, the detectives conducted a consensual search and found a quantity of crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a Remington Game Master Pump Action .243 caliber Rifle.
The detectives arrested Joshua Hakes, 39, and Diane Dziaba, 44, both of Bath, NY. Joshua Hakes was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and certain persons not to possess firearms. Diane Dziaba was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“These detectives continue to put forth an extraordinary effort each and every day,” said Chief Dennis Miller. “The Anti-Crime Unit will continue to proactively patrol the town of Secaucus to keep our residents safe and apprehend those who insist on committing crimes within our town.”
Hakes and Dziaba were lodged in the Hudson County Jail.
The charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
