By a vote of more than two to one, Jersey City Ward E Councilman James Solomon defeated former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey in Tuesday’s runoff election to become the city’s next Mayor.

With two thirds of the votes tabulated, Solomon was leading 69.02-percent to 30.98-percent.  Solomon was the leading vote-getter in last month’s, November 4th General Election, however, he did not receive 50-percent of the plus one, forcing Tuesday’s runoff.

Solomon also swept the At Large Council races, with former Council Presideny Rolando Lavarro, Mamta Singh and Michael Griffin easily winning.

As far as the Ward runoff elections, all of Solomon’s running mates were victorious.  Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley won re-election; Joel Brooks won election in Ward B; in Ward C Tom Zuppa defeated incumbent Councilman Rich Boggiano; and Jake Ephros won in Ward D.

Solomon will have a complete Council of support; a 9-0 majority.  In the November election, Eleana Little won the Ward E Council seat, while Frank Gilmore won re-election to the Ward F Council seat.
