UCHS Students Experience The Dangers Associated With Impaired Driving Through The Arrive Alive Tour

The results of impaired driving can be devastating.  Automobile accidents, lifelong injuries and tragically, death.  On Tuesday, Union City High School students learned firsthand what those consequences can be.

UNITE’s Arrive Alive Tour, the nation’s number-one ranked drunk and distracted driving awareness event based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, as well as the first-and-only marijuana driving simulator in the country, spent six hours at the school.  The Arrive Alive Tour uses a high-tech, state-of-the-art simulator that allows participants to drive while distracted, drunk, or drugged in a fully functioning vehicle without moving or being intoxicated. The simulator allows participants to experience the real-life dangers without the real life consequences.

UNITE’s Arrive Alive Tour works with highway safety offices, government agencies, U.S. military bases, corporations, communities, colleges, and high schools throughout the nation to bring this life changing event with the mission of changing these dangerous driving behaviors and saving lives.

As the school year nears a conclusion, proms will be on tap shortly, and that means teenagers spending time on the roads.  Hopefully Tuesday’s demonstration will hit home and auto accidents won’t highlight the news.

The Arrive Alive Tour is an important lesson, however, not just for teenage drivers, but for anyone who gets behind the wheel and turns on the ignition.  On average, 11,000 Americans die in drunk driving accidents annually.  Hopefully, this is a lesson learned and not a lesson wasted.
