Union City Celebrates Italian Heritage

During a flag raising ceremony at International Plaza on Thursday, Union City celebrated Italian heritage with a flag raising ceremony and the presentation of city proclamations to two individuals, one an employee of the Union City Board of Education, the other an Italian journalist and college Italian instructor.

The Board of Commissioners presented proclamations to Vincent Bonito and Mary Giuffre.  Bonito works as a writer and educator for the BOE, while Giuffre is a former journalist for an Italian TV network.

Both honorees thanks Mayor Brian Stack and the Commissioners for their recognition, saying it is extremely important that Union City recognizes the many heritages and nationalities living in the municipality.

Reporter and WNBC News4 New York personality Michael Gargiulo was among the attendees at Thursday’s ceremony.
