Union City Cops Care Program Enriching the Lives of Children

Union City kids are interacting with local police officers in a positive way this summer.  After suffering through last year’s pandemic, the youngsters are hanging out with the officers in a program the Police Department calls “Cops Care.”

Through the end of August, the Department and the Union City Board of Education are utilizing four city schools to run, in essence, day camps for six hours daily where the kids and the officers play sports together and get to know one another.  It’s the perfect way to teach the kids, who attend the program because they want to, not because they are forced to do so, that local police are always available to help them with anything that might occur in their lives.

The program, which starts around 8 am, provides the children a morning snack and lunch.  The kids go home around 1 to 2 pm.

Among the activities offered are basketball, football, soccer, yoga and zumba.  It’s a great way to keep the kids occupied and ease the minds of their parents.

The Union City Cops Care program will end on August 27.
